I am not prepared and have nowhere to go. I walk down a dark street and pick a row of houses with low fences.
I spend the night huddled in some bushes, freezing cold, terrified when anyone walks past.
After a couple of nights I decide to head to the homeless men’s hostel. Place looks horrible. Dirty, big clanging security door. It feels institutional.
Inside, a staff member asks me lots of questions with all my answers going onto her forms. After 20 minutes she tells me “Well you look alright but no, we have no more beds available”. Why not just be honest and upfront to begin with? You shouldn’t make people jump through hoops!
I leave and start walking.
